One of the big projects that I've done in the last 2 weeks of maternity leave is embroidering these constellations for the baby's nursery. I've had this idea forever and I am so excited about how they turned out. (I got inspiration from the beautiful zodiac embroidery done by Miniature Rhino).
I used the same deep turquoise cotton fabric from the bassinet bedding & quilt, so it matches perfectly. And I found this beautiful metallic silver embroidery thread! It is so shimmery, just perfect for the stars. :)
After lots of searching online & at Borders, I bought this constellation book, which has simple, straightforward illustrations of the major constellations. I narrowed it down to my favorite 6, and then took pictures of the little illustrations and then traced them in Illustrator to fit my 5x7 frame openings perfectly. It was actually quite a bit of effort! Hehe. But I got them just the right size, and added the names underneath.
After printing each of them out, I traced them onto the fabric (backed with lightweight interfacing to make it a little stiffer)
Then I embroidered!
Then I ironed them
And framed! The final product:
Here are each of the 6 I did:
Our little part of the room for the babe. Since we'll be moving about a month and a half after he comes, we decided to get his crib and changing table in New York, and not go all out here & decorate, etc...but at least we've made it into a nice little corner for now.
